Among the Shadows is the last-written Armageddon Lost story but the first in the chronology of the characters' lives.

By the beginning of 2008, I wanted to put Armageddon Lost to bed in order to focus that time and energy on other projects that were begging for attention. I just couldn't do it. Something felt incomplete.

By the end of the year, I'd come to accept that I needed to write the beginning of the story for Shane and the other members of Armageddon Lost, before Thorn's arrival. I always knew what happened here. It existed in the form of vignettes, scenes of backstory that were referenced in mentions or flashbacks. Now I know this isn't just backstory. It is the story. What happens here provides the context for all that follows.

Now, as 2009 begins, I'm finally ready to tell this story.
